Hopetoun House & Estate

Is the home of the Earl of Hopetoun and the 4th Marquess of Linlithgow (the head of the family and Lord Hopetoun's father) lives on the Estate. and a absolutely beautiful place to visit. Built in the 17th century Hopetoun House and its estates offers a truly awe inspiring experience that offers real insight into the lifestyles of the nobility in Scotland and lineage that has shaped the country into what we know today.

House of the Binns

Is a house that dates back to the early 17th century and is the seat of the Dalyyell family (pronounced dee el). Currently the home of Sir Thomas "Tam" Dalyyell. The house enjoys panoramic views of central Scotland. It also contains a collection of porcelain, furniture and portraits tracing the families lives and interests through the centuries.

Is a church within West Lothian by the village of Torphichen. It comprises the remains of the preceptory of the Knights Hospitaller of the order of St John. The Preceptory was constructed in the 1140's around a pre-existing church of early Christian origin. This location is a real piece of History stretching back to before the Scottish wars of independence.

Blackness Castle

Is a 15th century fortress, near the village of Blackness, on the south shore of the Firth of Forth. It was built on the site of an earlier fort, by Sir George Crichton in the 1440's. this site offers fantastic views spanning the full length of the river Forth and an incredible vantage point for the Forth bridges. This is a Truly breathtaking location.

Dunfermline Abbey

The Abbey and the ruins around it are all that remain of a Benedictine Abbey founded by Queen Margaret (St Margaret) in the 11th century. The history of the Abbey is entwined with Scotland itself and also serves as the location of King Robert the Bruce's grave and death mask . The Abbey's history can be traced back to when the Culdee community build the first Christian Church at Dunfermline.

Beecraigs Country Park is a great place to visit, it caters to a wide range of and recreational activities. It offers access to great woodland walks and views of the nature that resides within the park itself. It also offers mountain bike trails and skills area, dog walking, horse back riding, orienteering, BBQ and picnic areas.

​

Almondell & Calderwood Country Park Almondell & Calderwood Country Park offers beautiful woodland and riverside walks, picnic areas with seating and a hire able barbecue facility. The Park's Visitor Centre offers a warm welcome, displays, gallery, aquarium, information and a cosy conservatory where you can enjoy a cup of tea as you look out over the garden.

Polkemmet Country Park is located on the former private estate of the Baillie family, who lived on the site for over 300 years.  The old mansion house (since demolished) sat where the bowling green is today.  Polkemmet has a rich and varied history and offers beautiful woodland and riverside walks, picnic areas with seating and barbecue facilities

Canal Boat Trips

Linlithgow Canal Experience offers you the chance to take to West Lothian's historic water ways and visiting one of the Scotland most increasingly popular sites 'The Falkirk Wheel. This is run by the Linlithgow Union Canal Society (LUCS), a charitable organisation put in place to restore and preserve this truly historical landmark. The trips offer extremely scenic and tranquil journeys with friendly locals providing information about the history of the waterways and areas you journey through.

Zoo

Five Sisters Zoo was established in 2005 and is the most visited wildlife attraction centre in West Lothian. The Zoo has grown into an exciting collection of over 180 different species of mammals, birds and reptiles from all over the world making your visit extremely informative and fun for the whole family.

Museums​

Annet House Museum is a large Georgian town dwelling and garden in the High Street of Linlithgow, and tells the story of the town, as well as the folk who supported, fought, and witnessed the great events at the Burgh’s heart. The Collection serves to preserve this Heritage of the former Royal Burgh of Linlithgow for the enjoyment and education of both local people and visitors.

Bennie Museum The Bennie Museum opened on 20th May 1989 as a museum of Bathgate’s history and life. 

​

Almond Valley Heritage Centre is a heritage site that covers all of West Lothian, and has been in existence since 1982. Almond Valley has a wide range of museum objects that record and illustrate many aspects of West Lothian's past in heavy industry. There current collecting policy considers social and industrial history throughout West Lothian, but focuses particularly on areas of the county that share a heritage of shale mining and oil production.

​

Carnegie Museum Dunfermline may have been the home to many Scottish monarchs, but its most famous son was born in more modest surroundings. Andrew Carnegie (1835-1919). There are interactive displays, weaving demonstrations, temporary exhibits and children's activities that will keep the children occupied, plus there is a cafe, garden and gift shop to enjoy too.

Bo'ness Steam Railway offers you the chance to experience what it was like during the height of the industrial revolution by hoping on board a steam locomotive. you can also visit the steam train museum which gives you a look at the history of Engines and how far they have come. With its volunteers dressed as the staff of the day and with the decor of the station itself you truly feel like you have stepped back in time. They also provide themes days for all holidays so a truly great day out and memorable experience for you and all the family.

Kinneil House & Museum is a site that dates back to the early 14th century the land of Kinneil on which it sits was once the principle seat of the Hamilton family. Gifted to Walter Fits Gilbert by Robert the Bruce in 1323 for his contribution during the Scottish was of Independence. The museum offers visitors the chance to learn more about the area and how it prospered over the centuries and also provides details on the Roman fortlet and Antonine wall which are both found on the grounds pre-dating Kinneil house itself. A great place to visit, to learn or just immerse yourself in nature and beautiful surroundings of the estate.

The Bridgeness Slab is a Roman distance slab found in 1869, marking a portion of the Antonine Wall built by the second Legion (Legio II Augusta) and was created around 142 CE. On the slab itself are depictions and inscription which record the 4,655 paces of the Antonine Wall and the conflicts of that era. A fantastic look at Roman art and culture.

Bo'ness Motor Museum is a great all weather attraction to visit with something for all the family. The museum features cars from blockbuster movies such as 007, Harry Potter, Dr Who and others, along with other pieces of memorabilia.
